Mentorship Workshop - Intercultural Leadership Competencies

08/18/2021

Event Image

Do you want to discover how to enhance your intercultural awareness and skills in order to strengthen your relationships in a diverse workforce?

Join Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) and Women in Occupational Health and Safety Society (WOHSS) in a Mentorship Workshop that focuses in on the Top 12 Intercultural Leadership Competencies discussed in the previous webinar series entitled "ISANS Diversity and Inclusion".

This is an interactive workshop and we kindly ask that you find a quiet space where you can comfortably participate, with little distractions.  You will be expected to engage in group discussions and offer your own perspectives while being led through how to develop these competencies into a skill set.

Intercultural competence is a vital skill in today’s global workplace. Safety Professionals are increasingly likely to find themselves working with colleagues, co-workers, and customers from a wide range of cultures and countries.  At WOHSS we have found this to be especially apparent in the Mentor/Mentee relationships being developed by the Mentorship Program which has membership from across Canada and Internationally all with varied backgrounds.

Success comes with working productively with people who have been shaped by different values, beliefs, and experiences.

Workshop Leader: Paul Pickering, Workplace Culture Coordinator at ISANS with assistance from Kim Mattson, WOHSS Mentorship Committee Member

The Workplace Culture Program at Immigrant Services of Nova Scotia (ISANS) is an employer-focused service dedicated to increasing organizational success with hiring and retention practices and through organizational cultural change.  Services include livestream webinars, workshops, organizational assessments and HR support. All services are funded with no charge to Nova Scotian employers.

“WOHSS is able to access the ISANS Workplace Culture Program as WOHSS has an active Nova Scotia Chapter. Be sure to encourage our East Coast colleagues to stay active!”

Paul Pickering has been delivering diversity and intercultural-related learning since 1995.  He is in his 8th year as the Coordinator of the Workplace Culture Program at ISANS.  Prior to ISANS, Paul worked at the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) in England as a diversity specialist; in development training, the national policing train the trainer program, Hydra immersive learning program and within HR.  He has developed and delivered diversity, communication and management courses for urban community programs, taught English as a Foreign Language in South Korea and Czechia, and taught a variety of Liberal Arts courses at Concordia International University, Estonia. He holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology and an MA in Communication Studies, both from the University of Maine, and a Diploma in Lifelong Learning from London, England.  He Immigrated with his family to Canada in 2011.
