Title: The Tale of Two Pandemics | Not the Great Equalizer

Session Description:

When reviewing stats on where the world is at with gender parity, we can see that no single society has achieved total equality between women and men.  The reality is that  the COVID-19 pandemic is amplifying existing inequalities and gender gaps. As a result, the pandemic is impacting women disproportionality higher than men, which has been referred to as the tale of two pandemics. The pandemic our health care system and economic markets are dealing with, and the pandemic women are experiencing. Now is the time to come together as women leaders, to ensure we do not lose the gains we have made towards narrowing the gender gap.

During the session, Dr. Pagonis will encourage participants to reflect on and share their experiences, to highlight the unique challenges women are facing as they navigate  the pandemic. In addition, Dr. Pagonis will share strategies that can be implemented to overcome the adverse effects Covid-19 is having on women and people from underrepresented and marginalized populations.

Session Outcomes:

  • Discuss the unique challenges women are experiencing as a result of the
  • Discuss and explore contributing factors.
  • Discuss how diversity and inclusion practices can be integrated into strategies to support women, and others, overcome the adverse effects of the pandemic.

Steps for Life - Virtual Team

    04/25/2020

Don't live in an area where the Steps for Life is occurring? Aren't available on the day your walk is? Would rather walk on your treadmill, or dance your way through the miles?

Join our Virtual Team Captain Shannon Bolger for the Steps for Life walk!

NOTE: Steps for Life has encouraged all teams to hold private Steps for Life activities for 2020. Perhaps that means a solo walk in the woods, 5 or 10 km on your bike, or it may mean a small family or team get-together — provided we can maintain safe social distancing.

A message from Shannon Bolger: "The reasons I'm participating in this event are multiple, but like too many families out there, my family has been impacted by an occupational fatality. I'm walking in memory of my uncle, William Bolger. My personal journey has been detailed at our WOHSS website: https://wohss.com/the-impact-of-occupational-fatalities-remembering-a-brother/"

How does a virtual walk work?

A virtual walk can be done anytime, anywhere, at your own pace. The Steps for Life walk is 5km long, and you can do that in the comfort of your own home, out in the park, or wherever you fancy! Do it all at once, or break it up into more manageable chunks if you prefer. Walk, run, jog, or salsa your way across the finish line. The choice is yours! Keep us posted with your progress by using the hashtag #VirtualWOHSS

What is the Steps for Life?

There are a thousand reasons to make change happen. We formed a team for this year’s Steps for Life event to walk with communities across the country, united, knowing that together we are changing the future for all those affected by workplace tragedies.

Did you know that each year, one thousand workers come home from work forever changed—or do not come home at all? Their families, friends and co-workers will rally together to be there for one another.
